Synagogue Yehezkel, North London

Synagogue Yehezkel, North London

PROGRAM:

The Sephardic synagogue Yehezkel is the first new-built place of worship in London for its community for many years. The bespoke building offers a vital new centre for the fast growing community. It includes a community centre with mikvah bath and residential apartments. The sustainable design minimises the carbon footprint and maintenance cost. spaceAgent has developed brief and design in close cooperation with the community leaders and obtained recently planning consent.

ARCHITECTURE:

The elevation is the expressed interface between the public and the private. The elevation protects the building from the passing traffic, but opens itself to an approaching visitor. It also reflects ideas of the wall and the book. The hexagon shul centres on the bimah, with the ark oriented towards Jerusalem.
